Termed an Essex crystal, a half dome of clear rock crystal was hand-carved from the reverse. It was then painted in the image of this charming black and white dog and was then backed with mother of pearl.

In three dimensions, the artwork is exacting and lifelike. Please note that due to its curvature, our photographs may show an area of white or a reflection. This is only in the photographs. The rock crystal itself is clear and fine and in near-mint condition.

It is set in a bezel of 14k yellow gold. The brooch, with its sporting theme of a horse's riding crop, adds to the charm of this Art Deco brooch.
